Vaughan was born in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), where life was shaped by open skies, red earth, and the rhythm of the African bush. Growing up surrounded by wildlife and wide-open landscapes, he developed a deep connection with nature from an early age, one that would guide the rest of his life.
Before moving to the UK, Vaughan spent many years guiding safaris across Southern Africa. From the Zambezi Valley to the Lowveld, he shared the magic of Africa with travellers from around the world, teaching them to track animals, understand the land, and appreciate the continent's raw beauty.
Those years shaped his character: grounded, warm, generous, and always ready with a story around the fire.
Now living in the UK and semi‑retired, Vaughan has poured his passion into something new: bringing the true taste of Africa to Africans living abroad.
Heart of Africa is his way of keeping home close — through the flavours, smells, and traditions that mean the most.
Whether you grew up in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, or Namibia, Vaughan’s mission is simple: to give you a taste of home, wherever you are.
Heart of Africa attends local markets, food festivals, and shows across the South West of England. Vaughan loves meeting fellow Africans, sharing stories, and introducing newcomers to the flavours he grew up with.
